My wife of 40 years was what I would describe as a world class or full monty empath. Our attraction to each other was immediate. I almost proposed marriage during our first coffee date which lasted from early evening to the mornings wee hours.... merely talking and walking ( I did actually propose less than five weeks later). Now certainly I embody touches of "N". My role in the relationship quickly became to be the safe place for her to live out her empathy. If you met her in the grocery store and having trouble in your life... even if she didn't know you or you were several aisles over she would sense and try to connect. I joked that Jesus might have taken on humanity's sins but Maxine took on peoples troubles. She passed away a few years back, I believe in part due to the physical toll it took on her.
