This reminds me of the time I was teaching a college class of about 50 students when a young male student in the very rear of the room was waving his arms frantically and continuously. It was in the middle of a key point in the lecture. To say the least I was annoyed. After ignoring him for as long as I or he could stand. I yelled, yes yelled, "Mr......... what in the world do you want". Professor ..... sorry I just was trying to signal that your fly zipper is open....... visibly, sir".

Thank you... I paused searching for a learning moment. I closed my lecture notes as it was near end of class and asked ( after hurriedly zipping up) "Have any of you ever had an moment of embarrassment similar to the one I just experienced? If so, what did you do? If you were me in this situation what would you do? How many of you noticed and never said a word? Why? Why not? How many of you were distracted and on and on?

At the end of the semester in the class review and evaluation several students commented that the best day of class and learning was the day of the Unzipped Zipper discussion.

Is this a reflection of the impact of this discussion or the negative quality of the rest of the learning? Good question.
